Project Overview

With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, a new challenge has emerged requiring innovative solutions for educating learners in the 21st century.  The movement towards Industry 4.0 embarks on unprecedented advances in technology, automation and manufacturing that will forever change our national and global society.

Strategically located just a few minutes from the Livonia campus, the Manufacturing and Engineering Building is ideally immersed in the growing industrial community it serves.  It is now home to numerous programs including Welding, Manufacturing, Robotics & Automation, Mechatronics, Computer-Aided Design, Engineering, Electronics, Materials Science and Plastics Technology. The new footprint nearly doubles Schoolcraft’s workforce development program offerings.  By providing degree programs in these high-demand fields, the college plays an increasingly crucial role in southeast Michigan’s technology-driven future.  These programs will prepare both future and current workforce for careers essential to this emerging economy.

The building features hands-on, project-based instructional labs where students have opportunities to utilize state-of-the-art equipment they will see as they transition into the industry workforce.  Lab and classroom adjacencies are set up to encourage transdisciplinary studies in anticipation of industry-driven technological advancements.  Transparency and views into each of the programs was intentionally achieved with windows from public spaces to showcase learning happening within and to build excitement and discovery of each unique program.  Other features of the building include numerous collaborative learning spaces, a large-group Multipurpose room to host community events, student vending and lounge spaces for time spent between classes, and an administrative office suite critical for supporting student and faculty needs at this off-campus location.
