It’s shaped like a slice of pie and offers up selections just as pleasing to the palate, but the new John R. Dimitry Center on Center Campus has more in store for students than comfort food.
The point of the building’s silver canopy extends to the approximate geographic center of the campus and hopes are it will serve in the same capacity on a social basis as well. Toward that end, the one-story, 35,730 square foot John R. Dimitry Student Center houses the student activities office, dining room, college bookstore, games, computer workstations with Internet connections, ATM and vending machines. The building’s unique shape was decreed by nature. IDS had to accommodate the college’s Nature Center and adjacent protected wetlands.
The single story building provides dedicated rooms for student services functions including meeting space and offices, bookstore, and student dining. Support spaces include a kitchen, bookstore stockroom, student services storage, and a loading dock. Mechanical equipment is located in an upper level penthouse.
