Friday night, IDS was awarded a 2016 AIA Michigan Building Award and a 2016 AIA Michigan Interiors Award, both for projects we’ve done at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The American Institute of Architects Michigan holds an Honor Awards Celebration annually and established its awards program to bring to public attention the value and importance of architectural excellence and to recognize those whose notable achievements encourage all to make excellence in architecture the standard.

The esteemed jury from Boston, MA, chaired by Glen LeRoy, FAIA, chose 15 buildings out of the numerous submissions to be singled out for design excellence and will be receiving awards this year. The jury reported that it was obvious that good design was being achieved at all scales and types and that design professionals are engaging the betterment of the built environment.

IDS submitted only two projects this year and both were selected. The G.G. Brown Nano Mechanical Science & Engineering Building was awarded a 2016 AIA Michigan Building Award. The jury described its design as a simple palate of materials, well-defined activity spaces and a high degree of internal coherence.

The second submission selected for an award was the East Quad Residence Hall, awarded a 2016 AIA Michigan Interiors Award. “This renovation design creates a new and comprehensive residential community. Multiple spaces and functions are linked together with an elegant, restrained material palate.” the jury commented.

Team members of both projects from IDS attended the ceremony which was held at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.

Thank you AIA Michigan and all of our partners that made these projects a success!
